On the 4th of July, while the skies lit up in celebration, a little pug named Hannah was found broken and alone in a field—her femur shattered, her spirit crushed, and her time at Riverside Shelter quickly running out.
While she sat in the shelter with a terribly panful fracture, no one came looking for her. She was just another injured, unwanted soul in an overcrowded shelter, quietly slipping through the cracks. But thanks to the compassion of many and the power of this community, Hannah’s story didn’t end there
.

We put out a plea for help, and the response was nothing short of miraculous.
Through the Take A Licking Challenge and Sophie’s Gift, we raised $4,028 for Hannah’s urgent surgery—a life-saving operation that she otherwise wouldn’t have received. This tiny pug, tossed aside like she didn’t matter, became a symbol of exactly why we do what we do.
She is the first official life saved through this movement. And she won’t be the last.
Hannah has since been pulled by Church of Pug Rescue, where she’s now receiving the love, rest, and medical care she so deeply deserves. Despite everything she’s been through, her heart is full of joy, her tail still wags, and her healing has begun—not just her leg, but her life.
Why This Matters
There are countless Hannahs still waiting in shelters right now—injured, scared, and running out of time. Rescues want to help, but the costs are too high, and the requests never stop coming. That’s where you come in. Every video shared, every dollar donated, every person who Takes A Licking—it all adds up to moments like this. To hope. To healing. To saving the Hannah's
.
